Depression increases stroke risk

In old age depression stress dissatisfaction and psychosocial distress may increases the risk of suffering and dying from stroke otherwise called as brain attack for more than three times. The underlying mechanisms of psychosocial distress leads to stroke may be due to hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal deregulation and this may increase circulating catecholamines vascular endothelial dysfunction and platelet activation resulting in a hypercoaguable state.Other than this neuroendocrine and inflammatory effects of chronic stress and negative emotional state may also contribute to the increased risk for stroke. so avoid depression and stress in later part of life. Family members and people in the community must also support and protect the elders from psychosocial distress stress and depression.
