The 2000 year old Tirukkural Tiruvlluvar is a classic Tamil language text on commoner's morality consisting of 1,330 short couplets, or kurals, of seven words each. The text is divided into three parts with aphoristic teachings on virtue, wealth and love, respectively.

This Hubris syndrome—a psychological pattern of grandiosity, contempt for others, and loss of touch with reality typically seen in individuals holding significant power—is deeply analyzed in the Thirukkural. The ancient Tamil literature text directly addresses the causes, symptoms, and psychological dangers of this "intoxication of power" through its teachings on leadership and ethics.

Hubris Syndrome—a psychological condition where leaders intoxicated by power develop grandiosity, loss of touch with reality, and contempt for others—is perfectly addressed by the Tirukkural.

Thiruvalluvar provides profound antidotes and warnings against the arrogance and blindness brought on by power.

Tirukkural Verses addresses about Hubris syndrome and Power in the following heading:

1.The Root of Arrogance and Intoxication (Kural 431)

It says,avoiding arrogance, anger, and petty desires brings a life of true and enduring greatness.

2 .The Danger of Failing to Guard Against Faults (Kural 435)

The life of a ruler (or leader) who fails to protect themselves from flaws (such as hubris) in advance will be consumed like a heap of straw caught in a fire.

3.The Trap of Self-Admiration (Kural 439)

Never flatter yourself, nor delight in empty deeds that bring no real good.

4.The Illusion of Superiority (Kural 844)

When the vain foolishly say, "We are wise," their arrogance reveals their utter lack of wisdom.

Tirukkural has also says some principles for the mitigation of this problem: 

1.The Tirukkural insists that true greatness is defined by humility, not self-praise. Hubris makes leaders ignore dissenting voices, but true wisdom involves embracing correction.

2.It also says on the art of forbearance, (Kural 158) advocates overcoming arrogant insolence with patience and unyielding goodness.

3.Kural 268 teaches that a person who casts aside the "I" and the ego will earn the respect and reverence of all souls.

The ancient Tamil literature Tirukkural, authored by the sage Thiruvalluvar, provides a timeless psychological and political framework that directly addresses Hubris Syndrome—the intoxication of power. It warns against the arrogance, loss of empathy, and detachment from reality that accompany unchecked authority.
