Still, there are silver linings in India's Covid-19 fight. The country's mortality rate at 1.58 per cent is the lowest in the world and recovery is among the highest with a recovery rate of 81.72 per cent as of on 25.9.2020
As far as herd immunity goes in India we don't know, whether it works at all or not.
In India, president of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and a member of the ICMR National Task Force on Covid-19, described that the herd immunity as a "nebulous concept".
Most regions in India may be inching towards acquiring “involuntary” herd immunity against COVID-19 as about one out of four individuals have already been infected by the coronavirus, suggests a seroprevalence study done by a leading diagnostic and testing company.
Herd immunity is used to describe the indirect protection conferred to a population in which the majority of people have natural or acquired immunity to an infection. This is possible either through a large proportion of the population getting infected or vaccinated.
The herd immunity strategy will not work in countries like india because it can let people to get sick until most are immune and the disease no longer spreads easily will lead to many millions of deaths.
The second problem is that herd immunity is always temporary, because children are born without immunity, and eventually there will be enough susceptible people that the disease can start spreading easily again.
Currenly there is no evidence that the people who have recovered from Covid-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection, according to World Health Organization. We are nowhere close to the levels of immunity required to stop this disease transmitting. We need to focus on what we can actually do now to suppress transmission and not live in hope of herd immunity being our salvation.
Vaccines put the spotlight back on herd or population immunity in the 1960s and 1970s as public health specialists worked to achieve sufficient levels of vaccine coverage to stop disease transmission, and in the case of smallpox and polio, eradicate diseases.
So only a vaccine can end the Covid-19 pandemic. A vaccine is critical. Vaccines will save lives now and protect the future generations from COVID-19.

herd immunity right now is not a (government) strategy for coronavirus control. The current strategy is wearing a mask, following social distancing , good hygiene with regular washing of hands and vaccines

Scientists are edging closer to creating a vaccine against the coronavirus. Indian pharmaceutical companies are front and centre in the race to supply the world with an effective COVID-19 vaccine product.
Without India, there won’t be enough COVID-19 vaccines to save the world from the current COVID-19 Pandemic.

COVID-19 Related Deaths are Lower in India
India is taking many steps to combat the COVID-19 spread. Inspite of this India is emerging as a new hot spot in Asia.
In the 37th week of the COVID-19 Pandemic, India is the second country in the global list of confirmed COVID-19 cases on 7.9.2020.
For the past few weeks India is in first place in reporting the number of daily new COVID-19 cases; there are over 95k cases on 9.9.20 and over 96k cases on 10.9.20.
In the global list of number of COVID-19 related deaths, India is in the third place with 76, 304 deaths on 10.9.20 and the death rate is very low at 1.67%. The recovery rate in India is 77.63% as of 10.9.20.
In the 37th week of the COVID-19 Pandemic, in Asia about 55.41% of the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases are from India and it is 16.07% among the global number of total cases of 28, 367, 581 as of 11.9.20.
India, which took the resort of emergency, lockdowns and other measures to combat the further spread of the virus, has begun to introduce relaxation such as reopening public spaces, religious places, businesses transport and other institutions over the last several days with safety restrictions. This is despite the fact that there is a silent threat amid reopening. A second and even a third wave is feared but economic activities and normal human activities cannot be allowed to remain restricted for an indefinite period of time in developing countries like India.
In India, what is more worrying is that cases are rising steadily with the peak nowhere in sight. Add to this the rickety health infrastructure and densely populated areas with poor personal hygiene, lack of social distancing and not wearing masks by all, we may have a big COVID-19 related disaster in the near future.

One person, one seat cover
People are allowed freely to go to office work, hotels and meetings in small gatherings during unlocking now.
To prevent COVID-19 in the work place, in meeting hall chambers and in other places and even during air and other public transport travel, a low cost disposable chair cover if possible for one person one seat cover should be used and implemented in all required places. This is the need of the hour to prevent COVID-19 spread and to live with COVID-19 Pandemic for some more months till the present conditions are cleared.

Early Vaccine For COVID-19?
During the 36th week of the COVID-19 Pandemic, more than 26.8 million confirmed COVID-19 cases have been registered globally with over 8.8 lakh deaths.
Vaccines are the only way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 along with social distancing, wearing of masks, and hand hygiene.
Vaccines for COVID-19 should undergo sufficient scrutiny, and safety and efficiency should be proved before they are approved for public use.
Premature and early release of vaccines, with inadequate trials and without any randomised controlled studies, for political gain, may add more fuel to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic crisis.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented public/private partnerships to develop vaccines for COVID-19.
Operation Warp Speed (OWS) is a collaboration of several US federal government departments, including Health and Human Services and its subagencies, Agriculture, Energy and Veterans Affairs and the private sector. Within OWS, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has partnered with more than 18 biopharmaceutical companies to accelerate development of drug and vaccine candidates for COVID-19.
The COVAX initiative, part of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, is being spearheaded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI); Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; and WHO. The goal is to work with vaccine manufacturers to offer low-cost COVID-19 vaccines to countries. Currently, CEPI’s candidates from companies Inovio, Moderna, CureVac, Institut Pasteur/Merck/Themis, AstraZeneca/University of Oxford, Novavax, University of Hong Kong, Clover Biopharmaceuticals, and University of Queensland/CSL are part of the COVAX initiative. There are further candidates being evaluated in the COVAX Facility from the United States and internationally.
The US government has asked states to be ready to distribute coronavirus vaccines by early November; data on some key coronavirus vaccine candidates is expected to be out in the next month.
It is unlikely that a Covid-19 vaccine will be ready by the end of October, but that it is not impossible.
Around 60% of all vaccines in the world are being produced in India.
