A Zoological Park at Trichy is proposed in 2009 in 153.205 Acres ( 62 Hectares) at M.R.Palayam. It is the fifth zoo under the Zoo Authority of Tamilnadu.
The first phase of the work at the proposed site was completed in 2017 with 2.4 crore. Then the state had allotted 7 crore for the next stage of zoo development.
The Central Zoo Authority had suggested some modifications for its approval. For this and the addition of more amenities, more funds are required which may around Rs 60 crore. Government should consider to complete the work of Trichy Zoo as an educational entertainment for the people of Trichy.
