TIRUCHI: A surprise inspection was carried out at the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital on Monday morning by the Deputy Director of Medical Education D. Muthukumarasamy.
He carried out the task in keeping with the decision taken at a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi last month for review of the performance of Health and Family Welfare Department.
The Chief Minister had instructed the department to conduct surprise inspections across the State and monitor their effective functioning.
After visiting the Outpatient section, Dr. Muthukumarasamy inspected the emergency ward, neurology OP, 24-hours laboratory, intensive care unit, mortuary and kitchen.
He enquired the patients and their attendants about the quality of service rendered at the hospital. The patients had reportedly expressed satisfaction. He also visited the KAPV Medical College and checked the student attendance and other office registers. His visit culminated with a meeting with the College Dean A. Karthikeyan, Vice-Principal M.A. Aleem, and the Hospital Superintendent S. Paneerselvam.
Dr.Muthukumarasamy will be sending a confidential report to the Chief Secretary in a week's time, official sources said.
