Annual neurology conference in Tiruchi

TIRUCHI: The 18th annual conference of the Indian Academy of Neurology – IANCON 2010 – would be held in the city from September 24 to 26. This is the first time that the conference is to be held in Tiruchi.
About 550 neurologists including 15 from abroad would take part in the three-day conference that is to be inaugurated by the State Minister for Health M.R.K. Paneerselvam in the presence of the State Transport Minister K.N. Nehru.
175 research papers
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, the organising secretary of IANCON 2010 and neurologist M.A. Aleem said 175 research papers would be presented during the conference which would mainly deal with controversies in neurology and the latest developments in the field.
Eminent neurologists from the country including Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, also the president of Indian Academy of Neurology, secretary Dr. Chandrashekhar M. Meshram and Dr. C.U. Velmurugendran from Chennai and five well-known neurologists from abroad including Prof. Stefan Pulst from the United States of America will share their experiences at the conference, which is to be held for the third time in Tamil Nadu.
The conference will provide a platform for the participants to further improve their knowledge in the field of neurology, Dr. Aleem said.
The best research paper in the field of neurology and allied specialities; best paper in the field of epilepsy and three best poster presentations would be presented with awards during the conference, he added.
A pre-conference workshop would be held here on September 23 on ‘Interventional Neurology' which would feature live case demonstrations of neuro intervention.
Dr. Osama Zaidat and John Lynch from Milwaukee in West Indies and Shakir Hussain from New Delhi will take part in the workshop, which is to be inaugurated by Dr. S. Vanchilingam, chairman, IANCON 2010.
