Measures Taken by India To Prevent Novel Coronavirus Spread

According to the WHO, coronavirus infection is a zoonotic disease and it can be transmitted from animals to humans. The 2019-nCoV viral infection is suspected to have spread from consumption of seafood and it is now starting to spread from human to human as well.

This can happen when an uninfected person comes into contact with the secretions of an infected person — such as via sneezing, handshake or cough.

In recent days till 23rd of this month, in China, there have been 25 deaths and about 830 cases with Novel coronavirus infection as per the Chinese health authorities statement.

The World Health Organisation declared this outbreak of coronavirus infection in China to be an emergency but stopped short of declaring it an epidemic of international concern.

In India to date, as per Union Health Ministry statement, there is no Novel coronavirus (nCoV) infection in the country.

Till January 22nd about 12 828 passengers from 60 flights were screened for Novel coronavirus infection at the International Airport of Delhi Mumbai Kolkata Chennai Bengaluru Hyderabad and Cochin in India.

The National Institute of Virology at Pune and another 10 other laboratories in India are geared up to test the samples of nCoV.

India also issued a travel advisory on January 17th against its citizens visiting China.

Today, it became known that one Indian primary art school teacher working at the International School of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China, is suffering from coronavirus pneumonia, type 1
