Drug Resistance Epilepsy in Indian Children
Pharmacoresistance in epileptic children does not necessarily mean that standard antepileptic drugs will not work.
There are other causes, including noncompliance with drug treatment, seizures that are not organic epileptic, misdiagnosis of the seizure type or epilepsy syndrome, inappropriate use of medications such as inadequate doses or drug-drug interactions. Also, lifestyle issues such as alcohol, drug abuse, stress, and sleep deprivation can also lead to drug resistance in epileptic children.
Poor socioeconomic status, misconceptions, native traditional methods of treatment, neglect of female and differently able children with epilepsy are also reasons for drug resistance epilepsy in Indian children
