Adding the word The before BMJ has no scientific medical research value. First even though your journal name was British Medical Journal in the past every medical and non-medical person knew and said the name of the journal as BMJ. Second search engines search for the word The along with BMJ. So it is ideal and authoritative to continue the journal name as before - BMJ.
