TIRUCHI: M. A. Aleem, neurologist and epileptologist of ABC Hospital, will be conferred ‘Dr. Banumathi Muguranathan’ Award, instituted by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Tamil Nadu state branch.

The award was given to him for his “Tamil excellence in medical publication, articles and oration. Dr. Aleem has presented over seven research articles in Tamil and published 10 books on neurological and medical disorders in Tamil. He will receive the award on May 11, during the 62nd annual State medical conference of IMA to be held at Kumili.

Teleneurology

Teleneurology enables neurology to be practised when the doctor and patient are not present in the same place, and possibly not at the same time. The two main techniques are: (1) videoconferencing, which enables communication between a doctor and a patient who are in different places at the same time (often called realtime or synchronous), and (2) email, where the consultation is carried out without the patient being present, at a time convenient to the doctors involved (asynchronous or store-and-forward teleneurology). Some problems that can be solved by teleneurology include: (1) patients admitted to hospital with acute neurological symptoms rarely see a neurologist; (2) delayed treatment for acute stroke; (3) non-optimum management of epilepsy; (4) unproductive travel time for neurologists; (5) extremely poor access to a neurologist for doctors in the developing world; (6) long waiting times to see a neurologist. Neurology is a specialty that, because of the emphasis on accurate interpretation of a history, does lend itself to telemedicine. It has been a late starter in realizing the benefits of telemedicine and most of the publications on teleneurology have been in the last five years. Its uptake within the neurological community is low but increasing. Telemedicine requires a significant change in how neurologists practise. The evidence to date is that teleneurology can narrow the gap between patients with neurological disease and the doctors who are trained to look after them.

திருச்சியில் பாலக்கரை, காந்திமார்க்கெட், தென் னூர், காஜாப்பேட்டை, இபி ரோடு, காவிரி கரை பகுதிகளில் உள்ள சிறுவர்கள், வாலிபர்கள் மற்றும் கூலி தொழிலாளர்கள் இவ் வகை போதையில் சிக்கி சீரழிந்து வருகின்றனர்.
செருப்பு தயாரிப்பு மற்றும் பர்னிச்சர்கள் தயாரிப்பதற்கான மூலப்பொருட்கள் விற்பனை செய்யப்படும் கடை, இரும்பு சாமான்கள் விற்கப்படும் கடைகளில் கிடைக்கும் சொல்யூஷனே இந்த போதை பொருளா கும். 50 மில்லி முதல் 5 லிட்டர் மற்றும் கேன்களில் கிடைக்கிறது. மேலும் சைக்கிளிலுக்கு பஞ்சருக்கு ஒட்டப்படும் சொல் யூஷன் விலையும் மிக குறைவேயா கும். இவற்றை வாங்கும் போதை ஆசாமி கள் அவற்றின் மூடியை திறந்து மூக்கின் அருகே கொண்டு சென்று சொல்யூஷனின் வாசனையை உறிஞ்சுகின்றனர். அவர்கள் உறுஞ்சும் வேகத்தில் இவற்றில் உள்ள கெமிக்கல் மூளை வரைக் கும் �சுர்� என்று செல்கிறது. அப்போது ஏற்படும் ரசாயான மாற்றம் சிறிது நேரம் அவர்களை தன் னிலை மறக்கும் அளவுக்கு கொண்டு செல்கிறது.
அதன்பின் டப்பாவில் உள்ள சொல்யூஷனில் காற்று பட்டு அவை இறுகும் தன் மைக்கு செல்லும் போது அவற்றை கைகளினால் எடுத்து உருட்டி வைத்துக்கொண்டு அடிக்கடி உறிஞ்சி போதையை இறங்க விடாமல் பார்த்துக்கொள்கின்றனர். அதே போல் பஞ்சருக்கு ஒட்டப்படும் சொல்யூஷனை நீரில் கலந்து அவற்றை சூடுபடுத்தி அதன் ஆவியை பிடிக்கும் போது போதை ஏற்படுகிறது.
இதே போல் ஒயிட்னர், நெய்ல் பாலிஷ் ஆகியவற்றிலும் போதையை கண்டுபிடித்து இன்பம் அனுபவித்து வருகின்றனர். இவ ற்றில் ஒயிட்னரை துணி மற்றும் கர்சீப்பில் கலந்து வைத்து கொண்டு சுவாசி த்து போதை ஏற்படுத்தி கொள்கின்றனர்.
சொல்யூஷன் அரை லிட்டர் டப்பாவின் விலை ரூ.85. சைக்கிளுக்கு பஞ்சர் ஒட்ட பயன்படும் சொல்யூஷன் விலை ரூ.10. குறைந்த விலையில் இவை கிடைப்பதால், இந்த புதுவித போதை பொருள் இளைஞர்கள் மட்டுமின்றி நடுத் தர வர்க்கத்தினர், முதியவர்கள் வரை அனைத்து தரப்பினரிடத்திலும் பரவி வருகிறது. காவிரி கரை ஓரமான ஓயாமாரி சுடுகாட்டு பாலம், அய்யாலம்மன் படித்துறை பகுதியில் ஏராளமானோர் அமர்ந்து இந்த போதையை அனுபவிக்கின்றனர்.
இதனால் ஏற்படும் விளைவுகள் குறித்து மூளை மற்றும் நரம்பியல் சிகிச்சை நிபுணர் டாக்டர் அலீம் கூறுகையில், கெமிக்கல் கல ந்த சொல்யூஷன், ஒயிட்னர், நெய்ல் பாலிஷ் ஆகியவற்றை சுவாசிப்பதால் மூளையை பாதிப்படைய செய்கிறது. மூளையை தாக்கிய பின்னர் ரத்தத்தில் கிருமிகள் கலப்பதால் விரைவில் மரணம் ஏற்பட வாய்ப்புள்ளது. இவற்றை தொடர்ந்து உபயோகித் தால் மூச்சுதிணறல், நுரை யீரல் பாதிப்பு, மாரடைப்பு, கல்லீரல் பாதிப்பு மற்றும் கை, கால் செயல் இழக்கும் அபாயம் ஏற்படும்.
பெற்றோருக்கு தெரியா மல் இம்மாதிரியான போதைக்கு அடிமையாகும் மாணவ, மாணவிகள் மற் றும் வாலிபர்களை அடை யாளம் கொள்வது சுலபமா கும். இவர்களுக்கு வாய் மற்றும் மூக்கை சுற்றிலும் சிவப்பு நிறம் தோன்றும். கால்களில் புண் ஏற்படும். அடிக்கடி இருமல், சளி தொல்லை ஏற்படும். இவர் கள் கோபமாக பேசுவர். முன்னுக்கு பின் முரணாக பேசுவது போன்றவைகளை கொண்டு கண்டுபிடித்து விடலாம். இம்மாதிரியான அடையாளங்கள் தெரிந் தால் உடனடியாக மருத்துவமனைக்கு அழைத்து சென்று சிகிச்சை அளிக்க ஏற்பாடு செய்ய வேண்டும். மேலும் தகுந்த கவுன்சிலிங் அளித்து அவர்களை மாற்ற முயற்சி எடுக்க வேண்டும். இம்மாதிரியான போதை பழக்கங்கள் வட மாநிலங்களில் அதிகமாக இருந்து, தற்போது திருச்சியில் பரவி வருவது வேதனைக்குரிய என்றார்.

திருச்சி: இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலின் மதிப்பீட்டாளர், திருச்சி அரசு மருத்துவமனை மற்றும் அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரியில் திடீர் ஆய்வு நடத்தினார். திருச்சி மாவட்ட அரசு மருத்துவமனையிலும், கி.ஆ.பெ., விஸ்வநாதம் அரசு மருத்துவ கல்லூரியிலும், அகில இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலின் மதிப்பீட்டாளர் டாக்டர் சுப்பாராவ் நேற்று திடீரென ஆய்வு மேற்கொண்டார். மருத்துவக்கல்லூரியின் அனைத்து இடங்கள், அரசு மருத்துவமனையின் அனைத்து இடங்களையும் ஆய்வு செய்த சுப்பாராவ், நோயாளிகள், மருத்துவ கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள், ஊழியர்கள் உள்ளிட்ட அனைவரிடமும் குறைகளை கேட்டறிந்தார். அவருடன் அரசு மருத்துவமனை ஆர்.எம்.ஓ., சிவக்குமார், நரம்பியல் துறை தலைவர் டாக்டர் அலீம் ஆகியோர் உடன் சென்றனர். அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் திடீர் ஆய்வு குறித்து, அகில இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலின் மதிப்பீட்டாளர் டாக்டர் சுப்பாராவ் நிருபர்களிடம் கூறியதாவது:
மாவட்ட அரசு மருத்துவமனைகளில், ஐந்தாண்டுக்கு ஒருமுறை அகில இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சில் குழு ஆய்வு மேற்கொள்ளும். அப்போது கண்டறியப்படும் குறைபாடுகளை சரிசெய்ய மருத்துவ கவுன்சில் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும். அதன்படி, கடந்த, 2012ம் ஆண்டு திருச்சி அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் ஆய்வு மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. அப்போது நோயாளிகள், மாணவர்கள், ஊழியர்கள் தரப்பில் பல்வேறு குறைபாடுகள் கூறப்பட்டது. அதுகுறித்து மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலுக்கு அறிக்கை அளிக்கப்பட்டது. அறிக்கை அடிப்படையில் திருச்சி மருத்துவமனையில் உள்ள குறைபாடுகளை களைய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்டது. அந்த அறிவுறுத்தலின்படி, இங்கு நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதா?, இன்னும் குறைபாடுகள் நீடிக்கிறதா? என்பதை ஆய்வு செய்யவே வந்துள்ளேன். ஆய்வில், சரிசெய்ய அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்ட குறைபாடுகள் சில நீடிப்பது தெரியவந்துள்ளது. அவைகுறித்து மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலுக்கு அறிக்கை அளிக்கப்படும். நோயாளிகளும் குறைகளை கூறியுள்ளனர். அவையும் மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலின் கவனத்துக்குக் கொண்டு செல்லப்படும். இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.

Schoolgirls hitchhiking on goods carrier injured in accident

TRICHY: As many as 15 girl students in the age group of 12 to 13 years were injured, as the goods carrier in which they had hitchhiked collided with a speeding sand-laden truck near Musiri on Wednesday morning. Though both the goods carrier and the truck swerved and rolled into a 20 feet-deep gorge, the girls escaped with fractures or minor injuries. There were about 23 people in the goods carrier, 20 schoolgirls and the driver, his wife and a college-going student.

The girls, hailing from Kariyampalayam are students of Government Girls HSS at Musiri, some 40 km from Trichy. They had missed the bus around 11am and were waiting for any available transport. Since supplementary exams were going on for the class 10 students, these girls had to attend class only in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Chandramathi, 19, the college student was also waiting at the bus stop when the goods carrier, owned by her uncle passed by. All the 21 girls boarded the carrier. Chandramathi and one more student were seated in the front along with the driver and his wife.

Chandramathi told TOI from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital that she could not remember anything as the accident occurred all of a sudden. When she regained her consciousness she was already at the Musiri government hospital along with other injured students. Chandramathi suffered a fracture on her right elbow and two other students, Lakshmi, 12 and Satya, 13 suffered injuries on their legs.

In all, 16 injured students were referred to the Trichy hospital. The dean Dr R Vallinayagam, accompanied by professor of neurology Dr M A Aleem and resident medical officer Dr Shiva Kumar visited the injured girls. Since there was no CT scan facility at Musiri hospital, 16 patients were referred to Trichy hospital at the instance of their parents.

Though the RTO office had specifically warned that the goods carriers must not transport humans, people still travel by them.
