Ponnampatti town panchayat gets ISO certification

The Ponnampatti Town Panchayat in the district has obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification for its civic management, including solid waste management, greening and vermicompost manufacturing programme.
The Town Panchayat, with 15 wards and a population of 12,167 as per 2011 Census, has already been declared plastic-free for eradicating the use of non-biodegradable plastic products in 2015.
The Town Panchayat has been implementing source segregation and collection of degradable and non-degradable waste.
The degradable waste is used for manufacturing bio- manure and vermicompost at its Uppilliyapatti village resource park.
The Town Panchayat has also taken up a greening drive and has also raised a park where vegetables are grown.
A terrace garden has also been raised at the Town Panchayat office building and is promoting the concept among residents.
District Collector K. S. Palanisamy, on Friday, felicitated the Town Panchayat Executive Officer S. Shahul Hameed and the Assistant Director of Town Panchayats, Tiruchi, M. K. Satheesh, for getting the ISO certification.
