International Stuttering Awareness Day : Growth Through  Speaking 22nd October 2019 - M.A.Aleem Neurologist Trichy Tamilnadu India

International Stuttering Awareness Day : Growth Through  Speaking 22nd October 2019

International Stuttering Awareness Day is observed annually on October 22. The The for this year is Growth Through Speaking. Stuttering is a communication disorder in which repetitions — or abnormal stoppages of sounds and syllables — break the flow of speech. There may also be unusual facial and body movements associated with speaking.

International Stuttering Awareness Day shines a helpful spotlight on stutterers and educates the public about the causes.

Diagnosis is made by a health professional trained to evaluate and treat children and adults with speech and language disorders (speech-language pathologist). The speech-language pathologist observes the adult or child speak in different types of situations.

If you're the parent

If you're the parent of a child who stutters, the doctor or speech-language pathologist may:

Ask questions about your child's health history, including when he or she began stuttering and when stuttering is most frequent

Ask questions about how stuttering affects your child's life, such as relationships with others and school performance

Talk to your child, and may ask him or her to read aloud to watch for subtle differences in speech

Differentiate between the repetition of syllables and mispronunciation of words that are normal in young children, and stuttering that's likely to be a long-term condition

Rule out an underlying condition that can cause irregular speech, such as Tourette's syndrome

If you're an adult who stutters

If you're an adult who stutters, the doctor or speech-language pathologist may:

Ask questions about your health history, including when you began stuttering and when stuttering is most frequent

Rule out an underlying health condition that could cause stuttering

Want to know what treatments you've tried in the past, which can help determine what type of treatment approach may be best

Ask questions to better understand how stuttering affects you

Want to know how stuttering has impacted your relationships, school performance, career and other areas of your life, and how much stress it causes

Treatment

After a comprehensive evaluation by a speech-language pathologist, a decision about the best treatment approach can be made. Several different approaches are available to treat children and adults who stutter. Because of varying individual issues and needs, a method — or combination of methods — that's helpful for one person may not be as effective for another.

Treatment may not eliminate all stuttering, but it can teach skills that help to:

Improve speech fluency

Develop effective communication

Participate fully in school, work and social activities

A few examples of treatment approaches — in no particular order of effectiveness — include:

Speech therapy.

Speech therapy can teach you to slow down your speech and learn to notice when you stutter. You may speak very slowly and deliberately when beginning speech therapy, but over time, you can work up to a more natural speech pattern.

Electronic devices.

Several electronic devices are available to enhance fluency. Delayed auditory feedback requires you to slow your speech or the speech will sound distorted through the machine. Another method mimics your speech so that it sounds as if you're talking in unison with someone else. Some small electronic devices are worn during daily activities. Ask a speech-language pathologist for guidance on choosing a device.

Cognitive behavioral therapy.

This type of psychotherapy can help you learn to identify and change ways of thinking that might make stuttering worse. It can also help you resolve stress, anxiety or self-esteem problems related to stuttering.

Parent-child interaction.
Parental involvement in practicing techniques at home is a key part of helping a child cope with stuttering, especially with some methods. Follow the guidance of the speech-language pathologist to determine the best approach for your child.

Medication

Although some medications have been tried for stuttering, no drugs have been proved yet to help the problem.

Re: Foundation of wisdom: “I don’t know”

Health care in India is much better

The causes of poor health for millions people globally are rooted in political, social and economic injustices.

Poverty is both a cause and a consequence of poor health. Poverty increases the chances of poor health. Poor health, in turn, traps communities in poverty.

Infection and neglected tropical diseases kill and weaken millions of the poorest and most vulnerable people each year. Likewise noncommunicable diseases can also have a major economic impact in people below poverty line.

Inspite of this, in many countries health indicators are improving in many aspect . The average lifespan is increasing above 65 in many countries in recent years.

Economic influences on health can be overcome by free and insurence based health services .

In India, world ĺargest our Prime minister Modi 's Ayushman Bharat health insurence scheme saved many familes from health related death and disabilities .

In India free health services in rural and urban areas , improving the health of many poor population .
Polio and smallbox were eradicated from india.

Noon meal scheme in India particularly in the State of Tamilnadu for school children is improving our children 's nutritional status .

In Tamilnadu almost 100% hospital based deliveries has reduced the infant mortality rate less than 16 per 1000 live birth and aiming to reach single digit IMR by 2023.

So Goverment polices and public involvement in any level can help poor, refugees , children, women, elders and even transgenders from the health related morbidities and mortalities .

Poor and refugees should not be neglected in health care .

Take care of the health of poor with humanity .

Safety Tips To Avoid Lightning Strikes -Dr.M.A.Aleem Neurologist Trichy Tamilnadu India

Safety Tips To Avoid Lightning Strikes

In recent days death due to lightning  is frequently reported in Our state

Lightning strikes may be rare, but they still happen and the risk of serious injury or death is severe. So take thunder lightning seriously.

The Effects of a Lightning Strike on the Brain

Surprisingly enough, many lightning strike survivors do not remember being struck. Instead, the only evidence of the traumatic event is burnt, displaced clothing and marks along the body.

One of the most intense effects of a lightning strike occurs within the brain: if the bolt’s electrical current enters the brain directly, the heat and electricity will cook the brain cells, rendering them useless. Yet for many people, these bolts’ effects on the brain appear more subtly over time.

For instance, many lightning strike survivors report memory issues, trouble with concentration and severe headaches, all of which last decades after the initial strike.

There is a significant differences in brain activity between lightning-strike victims and healthy people as they performed mental-aptitude tests.

Aside from impacting long-term brain function, lightning strikes are also known to blow out eardrums, prompting constant muscle twitches and moderate to severe nerve damage. Overall, the effects of a lightning strike may range from a slight inconvenience to a debilitating, lifelong struggle.

Lightning can results head injury concomitant with lightning stroke, cerebral hypoxia or a post-traumatic stress syndrome.  Lightning stroke can also result in subtle cognitive impairments. It is speculated that most complaints of these survivors are caused by a vegetative dysregulation, a disorder that has often been noted in the literature on the effects of electrical injury to the nervous system. Such a dysregulation might cause both the main complaint of fatigue and the mild cognitive impairments identified with the present test battery.

Lightning  can results in serious neurologic complications after being struck by lightning.

The spectrum of neurologic lesions includes the entire neuraxis from the cerebral hemispheres to the peripheral nerves.

These  neurologic disorders can occur  with regard to the site of the lesion, severity of the deficit, and the outcome.

Damage to the nervous system can be a serious problem for patients struck by lightning. Fatalities are associated with hypoxic encephalopathy in patients who suffered cardiac arrests. Patients with spinal cord lesions are likely to have permanent sequelae and paralysis.

Tips to Protect Yourself from Lightning Strikes

You can protect yourself from risk even if you are caught outdoors when lightning is close by.

Safety precautions-
Outdoors

If the weather forecast calls for thunderstorms, postpone your trip or activity.

Remember:

When thunder roars, go indoors. Find a safe, enclosed shelter.

Don’t forget the 30-30 rule. After you see lightning, start counting to 30. If you hear thunder before you reach 30, go indoors. Suspend activities for at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder.

If no shelter is available, crouch low, with as little of your body touching the ground as possible. Lightning causes electric currents along the top of the ground that can be deadly over 100 feet away.

Stay away from concrete floors or walls. Lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring.Although you should move into a non-concrete structure if possible, being indoors does not automatically protect you from lightning. In fact, about one-third of lightning-strike injuries occur indoors.

In open places avoid stand with Crowds and try to stand  100 feets apart.

Avoid standing near tree please  a meter away from tree

During travel please  inside closed vehicles  . Don't come out on road.

Safety precautions - indoors

Avoid water during a thunderstorm. Lightning can travel through plumbing.

Avoid electronic equipment of all types. Lightning can travel through electrical systems and radio and television reception systems.

Avoid corded phones. However, cordless or cellular phones are safe to use during a storm.

Avoid concrete floors and walls.

please Adopt according to the situations during thunderstorms to avoid lighting Strikes and injuries.

Re: Cancer screening: from uptake to informed decision making

Cancer Screening

Cancer screening is important for professionals, officials and workers working in units that handle the radiation associated investigations, equipment, materials and security scanners.

People living in areas with frequent earthquakes, and near mobile phone masts also need to undergo screening for cancers.

Regular screening for cervical cancer and prostatic cancer is also important.
