The Present Global Trend of COVID-19 Pandemic
As of today (29.5.2020) the COVID-19 infection is confirmed in 213 countries in the all continents except Antarctica.
This Pandemic has been started in Asia ( China ). Then it is shifted to Europe . Now
the epicenter of the COVID-19 Pandemic is at USA . This infection is less in African countries and it is least in Oceanic region.
At present the global cases of COVID-19 is nearing 6 Million (5,940,465).
Among them only 2% are critically ill and 98% (2,916,920) are with mild symptoms. During this COVID-19 Pandemic, highest number of (116,304)cases in a single day were reported on 28.5.2020
Now the current death rate is 12% ( 362,827) and the The recovery rate is 88% (2,606,807)
In US about 1,768,608 are infected with COVID-19 as of now today and the number of deaths were 103,344 with the death rate of 5.68% .
In the Europe, higher number of cases (284,986) are reported in Spain and the deaths (37,837) were reported in UK .
The Transcontinental country of Russia has 387,623 cases with about 4374 deaths.
The Europe including Russia has the total number of 1,981,993 confirmed COVID-19 cases and about 172,015 deaths
In Asia as of now today India leads the table with 167,442 cases with the less number of (4797) deaths. Iran has the maximum number of (7677) deaths in Asia.
At present there are 1,069,371 total number of confirmed cases and about 29,399 deaths in Asia.
In South America as of today there are about 758,107 cases are recorded with 36,746 deaths . In this region, Brazil leads the list with 438,812 confirmed cases with 26,764 deaths.
African continent has the less number of 132,668 cases and 3820 deaths . In this region, South Africa is having the higher number of (27,403) COVID-19 positive cases and Egypt has recorded high number of (845) deaths in this continent.
In Oceania, least number of cases (8,782) COVID-19 cases are reported with only 125 deaths. In this region Australia has
7,173 COVID-19 cases and 103 deaths
In the 22nd week of thIS COVID-19 Pandemic, a new International independent grant-making entity in the name WHO Foundation has been launched ( Which is welcomed by WHO ) on 27.5.2020 and that will support the World Health Organization’s efforts to address the most pressing global health
challenges like COVID-19 .
In this week USA has passed the mark of 15,000,000 Tests for COVID-19 on 27.5.20 by far the most test in the World . More and more number COVID-19 tests has helped USA to find out more number of COVID-19 positive cases.
In this week
a good news is that
the global death rate has come down to 12% and the recovery rate increases to 88% today (29.5.20)
As of today 29.5.20 India Is in the ninth place in global list of COVID-19 infected cases with very low death rate , which is higher than China.
Now the world is waiting for the second wave of COVID-19 in the countries where the first round of COVID-19 is over.
So the end or extension of lockdown restrictions and relaxation should be on scientific basis on the COVID-19 situation and it should not be based on the economy trends of the countries.

Re: Covid-19 and alcohol—a dangerous cocktail
Dear Editor
Alcohol and COVID-19 Pandemic
At the time of lockdown during the Summer COVID-19 pandemic, alcohol consumption can exacerbate health vulnerability, risk-taking behaviours, mental health issues and violence.
Intake of alcohol does not protect people from COVID-19.
One of the dangerous myths is that consuming high-strength alcohol can kill the COVID-19 virus. But It does not.
Alcohol consumption is associated with a wide range of communicable and noncommunicable diseases and mental health disorders, which can make a person more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection and its complications.
Alcohol compromises the body’s immune system and increases the risk of adverse health outcomes with COVID-19 infection.
Alcohol is a psychoactive substance that is associated with mental disorders; people at risk or who have an alcohol-use disorder, are particularly vulnerable, especially when in self-isolation during this COVID-19 Pandemic.
People with chronic alcoholism are more prone to get COVID-19 and also they have social disinhibition.
So it is better to avoid alcohol and to adapt social distancing, wear at least a cloth face mask or covering, avoid gathering and try to stay at home to beat the current COVID-19 Pandemic.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2020 04:10 IST
Celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, popularly known as Ramzan, was subdued across the central region on Monday.
Hundreds of Muslims usually congregate at idgah grounds and mosques to offer mass prayer on Ramzan in Tiruchi and other districts.
On Monday, almost all mosques and idgahs were empty. People offered prayer in their homes as the government had prohibited all kinds of public gatherings to control the spread of COVID-19 virus.
Most of them offered prayers along with their family members in their homes. Some gathered on the terrace with a group of 10 to 15 persons. They embraced each other and exchanged pleasantries, adhering to social distancing norms stipulated by governments and religious heads.
“Offering prayers at home is nothing new as it is our way of life. But this is probably the first time that we are confined to our homes on Ramzan,” said M. Moideen,55, who led a prayer at his house in Cantonment.
“As responsible citizens, we fully adhered to the government’s norms while celebrating Ramzan. We avoided public gatherings and open ground mass prayers,” said M.A. Aleem, a resident of Thuvarankurichi in Tiruchi district.
The festive buzz was missing in the market too, as major textile traders were not allowed to open their stores since March 25. Only small textile stores and pavement shops were opened.
With their favourite shops remaining closed, Muslims could not purchase new clothes of their choice. Many of them restricted their festive purchases to children.
“We cannot imagine Ramzan without new dresses. We buy at least two dresses for each of us. This year, however, we bought new dresses only for our grandchildren,” Mr. Moideen
said.

Re: Covid-19: A wake-up call
Dear Editor
Preventable Pandemic
The current COVID-19 Pandemic has changed the education system, destroyed the economy, devastated tourism and dismantled health infrastructures. It has also increased joblessness, distanced love, introduced risk in shopping, fear in travelling and threatened life in all age groups irrespective of socioeconomic status.
In this 21 weeks, COVID-19 infection has spread across 213 countries. It has affected 5.2 Million people and it has caused over 3.3 lakh deaths.
As of now only 0.07% of the world population are affected by COVID-19 infection. But the vast majority of people are at increased risk because of lack of social distancing and self hygiene. Lack of specific antiviral drugs and vaccines have also added more difficulties in the management and prevention of COVID-19 infection.
The current COVID-19 Pandemic has exposed public health and other primary and tertiary health care infrastructure inadequacies in almost all countries.
Many factors like ego, blaming others and cutting the funds to control COVID-19 spread as revenge are not a good sign in tackling the worldwide problem that arises out of the current COVID-19 Pandemic.
This is not a time to blame and find fault with each other. But it is time to act jointly to beat the COVID-19 spread with like mindedness.
It is not a war against many enemies. But now the common enemy is a single agent in the air and by that everyone is facing the same risk.
So a global cooperated action with individual self hygiene and social distancing will help to avoid COVID-19 infection. The early invention of vaccine will helpful to prevent and eradicate COVID-19 spread.

Use quality cotton
for masks
Masks made of two layers of quality cotton have been found to be more effective in controlling the spread of COVID 19 virus. Heavyweight cotton with thread counts of 180 or more and fabrics with thicker thread and tight weave need to be used for making masks. The cloth masks or face covers must not be shared even with family members. But, wearing of face masks or face covers alone will not work in the absence of social distancing and hand hygiene.

COVID-19 and Stigma in India
Coronavirus infection is associated with stigma from the presymtomatic stage to till death and even after in India
During this COVID-19 Pandemic , even a simple cough by a normal person is viewed seriously by the public and end up in discrimination.
Declaring a COVID-19 positive result for a person in a community leads to many extreme discrimination in all levels in the society.
COVID-19 patients and their family members are facing many social stigma before taking to hospital, at the treatment places and at the quarantine places .
After completing the treatment , patients and their family members
are facing discrimination and neglect in their living areas, work places, shopping places, worship places and even after death during last rituals in the society .
Because of the Stigma and discrimination in India , people are feared to undergo COVID-19 testing . So that People are also not cooperative in sharing the information about their source of infection. This may also create many difficulties during contact tracing.
As an extreme of social Stigma, if patients died of COVID-19 infection, their bodies are sometimes not allowed to bury or cremate in the burial ground or in crematorium because of many false beliefs prevailing in the community about COVID-19 in India

CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 : Q&A - M.A.ALEEM TRICHY TAMILNADU INDIA
1. Should I change my clothes and shower when I come home from the grocery store?
.
.
For most of us who are practicing social distancing and making only occasional trips to the grocery store or pharmacy, experts agree that it’s not necessary to change clothes or take a shower when you return home. You should, however, always wash your hands. While it’s true that a sneeze or cough from an infected person can propel viral droplets and smaller particles through the air, most of them will drop to the ground.
.
Studies show that some small viral particles could float in the air for about half an hour, but they don’t swarm like gnats and are unlikely to collide with your clothes. “A droplet that is small enough to float in air for a while also is unlikely to deposit on clothing because of aerodynamics,” said Linsey Marr, an aerosol scientist at Virginia Tech. “The droplets are small enough that they’ll move in the air around your body and clothing.”
.
.
2. Why is it that small droplets and viral particles don’t typically land on our clothing?
.
I asked Dr. Marr to explain further, since we’re all getting a mini lesson in aerodynamics.
.
“The best way to describe it is that they follow the streamlines, or air flow, around a person, because we move relatively slowly. It’s kind of like small insects and dust particles flowing in the streamlines around a car at slow speed but potentially slamming into the windshield if the car is going fast enough,” said Dr. Marr.
.
.
“Humans don’t usually move fast enough for this to happen,” Dr. Marr continued. “As we move, we push air out of the way, and most of the droplets and particles get pushed out of the way, too. Someone would have to spray large droplets through talking — a spit talker — coughing or sneezing for them to land on our clothes. The droplets have to be large enough that they don’t follow the streamlines.”
.
So, if you’re out shopping and somebody sneezes on you, you probably do want to go home, change and shower. But the rest of the time, take comfort that your slow-moving body is pushing air and viral particles away from your clothes, a result of simple physics.
.
.
.
3. Is there a risk that the virus could be in my hair or beard?
.
For all the reasons outlined above, you should not be worried about viral contamination of your hair or beard if you are practicing social distancing. Even if someone sneezed on the back of your head, any droplets that landed on your hair would be an unlikely source of infection.
“You have to think through the process of what would have to happen for someone to become infected,” said Dr. Andrew Janowski, instructor of pediatric infectious diseases at Washington University School of Medicine St. Louis Children’s Hospital. “You have someone who sneezes, and they have to have X amount of virus in the sneeze. Then there has to be so many drops that land on you.”
.
“Then you have to touch that part of your hair or clothing that has those droplets, which already have a significant reduction in viral particles,” Dr. Janowski said. “Then you have to touch that, and then touch whatever part of your face, to come into contact with it. When you go through the string of events that must occur, such an extended number of things have to happen just right. That makes it a very low risk.”
.
.
4. Should I worry about doing laundry and sorting clothes? Can I shake viral particles loose from my clothes and send them into the air?
.
.
The answer depends on whether you’re doing routine laundry or cleaning up after a sick person.
.
.
Routine laundry should not cause worry. Wash it as you normally would. While some types of viruses, like the norovirus, can be tough to clean, the new coronavirus, like the flu virus, is surrounded by a fatty membrane that is vulnerable to soap. Washing your clothes in regular laundry detergent, following the fabric instructions, followed by a stint in the dryer is more than enough to remove the virus — if it was even there in the first place.
.
.
“We do know that viruses can deposit on clothing (from droplets) and then be shaken loose into the air with movement, but you would need a lot of viruses for this to be a concern, far more than a typical person would encounter while going for a walk outdoors or going to a grocery store,” Dr. Marr said.
The exception is if you are in close contact with a sick person. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you wear gloves when cleaning up after someone who is sick, and take care not to shake laundry and bedding. Use the warmest water setting possible and dry completely. You can mix laundry from an ill person with the rest of the household load. But just leaving laundry to sit for a while also reduces risk, because the virus will dry out and decay. “We know these types of viruses tend to decay faster on fabric than on hard, solid surfaces like steel or plastic,” said Dr. Marr.
.
.
.
5. So how long can the virus remain viable on fabric and other surfaces?
.
Most of what we know about how long this novel coronavirus lives on surfaces comes from an important study published in The New England Journal of Medicine in March. The study found that the virus can survive, under ideal conditions, up to three days on hard metal surfaces and plastic and up to 24 hours on cardboard.
.
But the study did not look at fabric. Still, most virus experts believe that the cardboard research offers clues about how the virus probably behaves on fabric. The absorbent, natural fibers in the cardboard appeared to cause the virus to dry up more quickly than it does on hard surfaces. The fibers in fabric would be likely to produce a similar effect.
.
.
A 2005 study of the virus that causes SARS, another form of coronavirus, provides further reassurance. In that study, researchers tested increasingly large amounts of viral samples on paper and on a cotton gown. Depending on the concentration of the virus, it took five minutes, three hours or 24 hours for it to become inactive. “Even with a relatively high virus load in the droplet, rapid loss of infectivity was observed for paper and cotton material,” the researchers concluded.
.
.
.
6. Should I be concerned about the mail, packages or the newspaper?
.
.
The risk of getting sick from handling mail or packages is extremely low and, at this point, only theoretical. There are no documented cases of someone getting sick from opening a package or reading a newspaper.
.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take precautions. After handling mail or packages or reading the newspaper, dispose of the packaging and wash your hands. If you still feel especially anxious about it, take guidance from the New England Journal study and just let mail and packages sit for 24 hours before handling them.
.
.
7. How much should I worry about contamination if I go outside to walk the dog or exercise?
.
.
Your chances of catching the virus when you go outdoors is extremely low, provided you’re keeping a safe distance from others.
.
“Outdoors is safe, and there is certainly no cloud of virus-laden droplets hanging around,” said Lidia Morawska, professor and director of the International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.
.
“Firstly, any infectious droplets exhaled outside would be quickly diluted in outdoor air, so their concentrations would quickly become insignificant,” Dr. Morawska said. “In addition, the stability of the virus outside is significantly shorter than inside. So outside is not really a problem, unless if we are in a very crowded place — which is not allowed now anyway. It is safe to go for a walk and jog and not to worry about the virus in the air, and there is no need for an immediate washing of the clothes.”
.
.
8. I’ve read that when I get home from a trip outside I should remove my shoes and wipe them down. Should I waste my precious disinfectant wipes on my shoes?
.
.
Shoes can harbor bacteria and viruses, but that doesn’t mean they are a common source of infection. A 2008 study commissioned by Rockport Shoes found a lot of gross stuff, including fecal bacteria, on the soles of our shoes. A recent study from China found that among health care workers, half had coronavirus detected on their shoes, which is not unexpected since they worked in hospitals with infected patients.
.
.
So what should we do about our shoes? If your shoes are washable, you can launder them. Some readers asked about cleaning the soles of their shoes with a wipe. That is not recommended. Not only does it waste a good wipe (they are still in short supply), but it brings germs that would stay on the sole of your shoe or on the ground directly to your hands.
.
.
You can try not to think about what’s lurking on your shoes — or you can have a conversation with your family about becoming a shoe-free household. We covered the pros and cons of shoeless living in our article, “Should You Take Your Shoes Off at Home?” If you have a child who crawls or plays on the floor, a family member with allergies, or someone with a compromised immune system, a shoe-free home might be a good idea for general hygiene.
.
.
Dr. Janowski said shoes are not a big worry for contracting coronavirus, but it might make you squeamish if you think about where your shoes have been. “If you want to talk about bacteria, we know bacteria love to live on shoes,” Dr. Janowski said. “You never know what you stepped in.”

Ramadan 2020 and COVID-19
- M.A.Aleem Neurologist #Trichy #Tamilnadu #India
This year Muslims around the world are observing the holy month of Ramadan in a difficult situation in lockdown with tight restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak and that has paralysed the entire world .
As of now today at the end of the 2nd week of Ramadan 2020 nearly 4 Million (3939553) people all over the world are infected with the COVID-19. There were about 271410 deaths and 1355788 were recovered from the COVID-19 infection.
Ramadan is the holiest month for Muslims, in which they fast during daylight hours, congregate for prayers and share meals as a community.
Due to strict curfews and physical distancing directives enforced to limit the spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 , many of Ramadan's rituals and traditions are curtailed this year in all Muslim countries.
In the past during Ramadan, even in war time or during any disasters, Muslims still observed their religious rituals together with gathering .
During the holy month, Muslims wake up early to eat a pre-dawn meal called suhoor, and break their fast after sunset with a meal called iftar.
Breaking of the fast is usually a communal affair. It is common for mosques to host large iftars, especially for the poor.
Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, which has spread to 212 nations (which include almost all Muslim countries), many countries including india this year have advised their Muslim citizens to avoid large gatherings and have suhoor , iftar and all prayers individually or with family at home.
In this Ramadan 2020
Congregational prayers are banned and mosques have been temporarily closed in many countries including in India in the view of lockdown and to break the chain of COVID19 spread in the community.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic
it is advised to practise physical distancing, not to greet one another in the way that we usually greet by hugging our fellow Muslims or shaking their hands.
It is ideal to
use culturally and religiously sanctioned greetings that avoid physical contact, such as waving, nodding, or placing the hand over the heart.
It is better to pay attention
while distributing their sadaqat or zakah during this Ramadan by keeping the physical distancing measures in place. It is also good to avoid the crowded gathering associated with iftar banquets and consider to use individual pre-packaged boxes/servings of food. These can be organized by centralized entities and institutions, which should adhere to physical distancing throughout the whole cycle (collecting, packaging, storing and distribution) to prevent the coronavirus spread
No studies of fasting and risk of COVID-19 infection have been performed. Healthy people should be able to fast during this Ramadan as in previous years, while COVID-19 patients may consider religious licenses regarding breaking the fast in consultation with their doctors, as they would do with any other disease.
The current COVID-19 Pandemic may passes through Hajj 2020 and even it may extend beyond Christmas and New year 2021.
So we should learn to live with lifestyle modifications to keep away COVID-19 from us .
Muslims are requested , not to plan to perform Hajj 2020
Every year over 1 Million Muslims are performing Hajj. This year, Muslims should wait to do prior plan to perform Hajj 2020. Because it is very difficult to maintain social distancing during their Hajj performance if the current COVID-19 Pandemic is continuing.
