Re: Sport associated dementia

Dear Editor

Sports, Games and Dementia

Contact sports such as football, soccer, basketball, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, wrestling, cheerleading, and rugby may produce concussion injuries to brain and can leads to dementia.

This may be due to minor to major single or repeated injuries to the strategic areas of the brain which are important for the recognition, registration and retrieval process in the memory circuit.

On the other hand , playing of any challenging healthy games and non head contact sports can also retard the early development of dementia.

COVID-19 Vaccination Program in India - M.A.Aleem Neurologist #Trichy #Tamilnadu #India

COVID-19 Vaccination Program

India's drug regulator has granted restricted emergency use to Oxford-AstraZeneca's Covishield and our indigenously developed Covaxin of Bharat Biotech in the country.

In our country the vaccination drive to kick off on 16th January, 2021 after the forthcoming festivals including Pongal ,Lohri, Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu.

With World largest COVID-19 vaccination program India
is aiming to vaccinate 300 million people – a quarter of the country’s population – by the end of the summer.

The government has decided to first administer the vaccines to high-risk groups: healthcare workers, frontline workers, people above 50 years of age and those with co-morbidities like diabetes, hypertension, cancer and lung diseases.

To start with, only pre-registered people will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine (on-the-spot registration is not an option). Registration is to be done on the COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network (Co-WIN) system that has been described as a “digitalised platform to track the enlisted beneficiaries for vaccination and COVID-19 vaccines on a real-time basis.

The platform can be accessed at http://www.co-vin.in/

Registration for COVID-19 vaccination would involve authentication through a photo identity card which includes all major government identity documents such as voter identity card, driving license, Aadhaar.

Our district is tuned up to implement the COVID-19 vaccination program in war footing manner

COVID-19 in Trichy at the end of the year 2020 - M.A.Aleem Neurologist #Trichy #Tamilnadu #India

End in Sight
- M.A.Aleem Neurologist #Trichy #Tamilnadu #India

At the end of the year 2020, Trichy has registered 1.73% (14,183) of the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Tamilnadu with 1.2% deaths along with an average single day spike of less than 25 cases.

Trichy has recorded the first COVID-19 case in March 27,2020. The first COVID-19 related death was reported in June 3,2020.

In this COVID-19 Pandemic year 2020 Trichy has celebrated the Ramzan , Bakrid, Diwali, Christmas and Vaikunta Ekadasi including Paramapada vasal opening without any minor or major Outbreak of news cases of COVID-19. The New year 2021 night celebration has also been not allowed this time due to ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.

There is a steady declining in the number of new COVID-19 cases and Hospital admissions of COVID-19 cases in Trichy. These are the good signs of COVID-19 control in the Trichy city and in the district.

Now our district is getting ready by requesting the Medical institutions and hospitals to upload the beneficiaries in the COVID-19 vaccination portal to strengthen the COVID-19 vaccination program.
